Involvement opportunities

  • Captains

RUDM Captains play a crucial role in the planning of Dance Marathon. Selected in the fall of each year, Captains are assigned to one of our six teams and work directly with their assigned Assistant Director.

Captain applications open in early August. Applicants are required to attend a Captain information session, submit an application and participate in Captain Interviews.

Once selected, Captains participate in a day-long retreat and are assigned to their DM team.

Captains are required to attend regular DM planning meetings, held on Tuesday nights at 9:30, commit to raise $450.00, assist with DM fundraising activities such including basketball concession stands.

Captains complete a variety of tasks and projects as part of planning for the annual Dance Marathon. Their contribution to DM weekend is invaluable.

If learning the ins/outs of large event planning is of interest, make plans to attend a Captain Information session as the start of the academic year.

Questions about the Captain selection process can be directed to director.humanresources@rudm.org

  • Event Staff

Event Staff are dedicated students that sign-up to volunteer and work at RUDM.

These volunteers commit to raise $250, attend Event Staff Orientation in March and attend RUDM in and work as a “day of” volunteer.

Event staff assist with the various support tasks that keep DM running (production set-up, meal service, concession stand, snack bar, etc.).

Event Staff registration opens at the start of the spring semester. The registration deadline is 2/23/25 and their fundraising commitment of $250 is due 3/9/25.

Questions about the Event Staff registration can be directed to director.humanresources@rudm.org

  • Dancers

Dancers are the lifeblood of RUDM!

Dancers are members of fraternities, sororities, sports clubs, student organizations, and student athletes. They are from every campus, every major and every class year. They are students that care deeply for the children we support through Embrace Kids Foundation. And they are our primary fundraisers.

Students that dance commit to attend and stay for the entire ten-hour event. During the event, Dancers get to learn the line dance, participate in tournaments and games, watch student performances, listen to Embrace Kid family speakers and play with the patient children.

When you sign up, you’ll select one of three Dancer Levels (Silver, Scarlet or Comma Club). Each level has a different fundraising commitment and comes with different Dancer perks. The DM Finance Team has lots of fundraising tools and suggestions, so don’t be worried about reaching your commitment. You can also count on help from your fraternity, sorority, or student organization.

The deadline to register as a Dancer is 2/23/25. But the earlier your register, the more time and opportunities you have to fundraise and fulfill your commitment.

Dancing is an unforgettable experience. Register now and check this Rutgers tradition off your Rucket List!
